Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between refurbished and used?

The main difference between "refurbished" and "used" products is that refurbished products have been tested and or repaired to ensure proper functionality, while "used" products may or may not be defective. Refurbished products may be unused customer returns that are essentially "new" items, or they may be defective products that were returned under warranty, and resold by the manufacturer after repairing the defects and ensuring proper function.

Are there different kinds of refurbished products? What are the differences?

Other types of products that may be sold as "refurbished" include:

  • Items used in field tests, sales displays or demonstrations
  • Items returned for reasons other than defect and tested by the manufacturer
  • Items returned to the manufacturer because the box or item was damaged in shipping
  • Previously leased units that are turned in and resold after the lease ends

What does refurbishing involve?

Refurbishing involves restoring and repairing the product to ensure proper functionality but does not cover cosmetic restoration beyond light scratches or scuff marks.

Do refurbished computers come with Windows license?

Yes, all refurbished computers do come with a valid and legitimate license of Microsoft Windows software.

Why there are no disks /media with my computer?

Over the period of time, all manufacturers have adopted a model to install the Windows operating system on the hard drive only, optionally with a recovery partition on the hard disk as well. So, the reason manufacturers do not ship the Windows operating system disks or Recovery media is to reduce their cost.

Where can I get or purchase it if I need the media/recovery disks?

Recovery media can be purchased from the manufacturer directly by calling their tech support. You can find this information on the manufacturer's website.

My computer came with Windows 8 or 8.1 but there is no Windows key (COA) on the computer, is it legal?

Yes, it is a legal copy of Windows 8 / 8.1. Starting from Windows 8, Microsoft does not provide a COA sticker with activation keys like previous versions of Windows system. Instead Windows Licence keys are installed into the motherboard of the computer by the manufacturer.

I purchased a laptop which came with Windows 7 installed but it has a sticker which says Windows 8?

Windows 8 sticker tells that the computer has a license for Windows 8 operating system. It is legal to downgrade the Windows Operating system to a similar version according to Microsoft license agreement. That is why many manufacturers downgrade to Windows 7 installation when there is a Windows 8 license installed on the computer. Starting from Windows 8, Microsoft does not provide a COA sticker with activation keys like previous versions of Windows system. Instead Windows License keys are installed into the motherboard of the computer by the manufacturer. In case of re-installation, the Windows operating system installation disk will automatically pick up the license keys and activate the Windows operating system.

Is there warranty on refurbished products?

Yes, there is generally a 90 Day or more warranty on our refurbished laptop computers based on the condition of the laptop unless otherwise stated or listed “As is”.

What is covered and what is not covered under warranty?

What is covered by this warranty?

This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship in your product during normal use of product. It also covers units that are deemed dead on arrival or defective upon reception of the product.

What is not covered by this warranty?

This limited hardware warranty does not cover:

  • Problems that result, directly or indirectly, from:
  • External causes such as accident, abuse, misuse or problems with electrical power.
  • Usage that is not in accordance with product instructions.
  • Failure to follow the product instructions or failure to perform preventive maintenance.
  • Normal wear and tear

Can I return my product during warranty period for full refund?

No, returns are only permitted within the first 30 days of purchase if it meets the conditions as stated in our return policy. There may also be a 15% restocking fee charged in some cases if there no issue with the laptop, or if it was returned in a state opposite to how it was shipped out. Why choose Poder®?

Poder® uses high quality Li-ion cells in its battery packs to ensure superior performance and longer battery life. Quality components, advanced design and better manufacturing processes ensure that Poder® battery products will have higher performance and longer life.

Is Poder® as safe as original manufacturers' batteries?

A 6 cell battery takes approximately 2-3 hours to fully charge. After the battery is fully charged, the flow of electric current is stopped by built-in enhanced safety circuit. This added safety feature prevents the battery from being charged beyond safe limits and helps reduce the risks of overheating. Also, higher quality components used in Poder® batteries help safer battery operation even in environments with higher temperature.

How is Poder® on the environment?

Poder® products are environmental friendly and are fully compliant with main global and US environmental standards. Poder® batteries are free of substances known to be hazardous to the environment. Battery components and all packaging are also recyclable. The Poder® batteries are compliant with following:

What is a Lithium-Ion battery?

A Li-ion battery pack is made of multiple Li-ion cells connected in series and parallel depending on current and voltage specifications of a mobile device.

What is Battery Charge Cycle Life?

A charge cycle is a total amount of charge and equal discharge. A new Li-ion battery approximately yields 300-350 charge cycles before it can not hold a desired amount of charge. Battery charge cycle life depends on its operating temperature and discharge rate and higher temperatures and energy discharges decrease battery cycle life.

What is AH or MAh, WHr and Voltage?

Battery capacity is expressed in ampere-hours (Ah) or mili ampere-hours (mah). Battery energy, expressed in watt-hours (Wh), is the product of the battery capacity (Ah) and the battery voltage (V). The operating voltage range of a Li-Ion battery pack remains relatively constant throughout its useful life.

Why does my battery not perform the same way?

Li-Ion battery cells suffer gradual, irreversible capacity loss with each discharge-charge cycle that’s why battery performance decreases over time. Such aging occurs more rapidly as temperature and discharge loads increase.

During prolonged period of non-use or if the battery is left in an unpowered notebook, the battery charge will decrease below its recommended low-voltage level. Leaving the battery in this condition for an extended period will accelerate the decrease in full charge capacity (FCC).

Leaving the battery at a high level of charge in a high-temperature environment for extended periods (for example, running a notebook computer in a docking station under a heavy load) will also accelerate the loss of capacity.

Running high-end applications, for example, playing 3D games will lower FCC faster than using word processing applications.

What is battery calibration?

Calibration is a process where battery undergoes full discharge – charge cycle, discharging battery to the 5% of remaining charge and then charging to its full capacity. The calibration process maximizes the battery run time and keeps the cells in healthy condition. In general a Li-ion battery should be calibrated once a month or a minimum of once every three months.
